Chief Ewume John Eko, popularly known as Moja Moja, has denied allegations linking him to the killing of three civilians and the destruction of an electricity transformer in Ekona, Muyuka Subdivision, in Cameroon’s South West Region.
In a video seen on social media, Ewume rejected claims that he shot at the transformer and was responsible for the deaths of the three civilians. He did not, however, give a detailed account of what happened or explain the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
The denial comes after residents accused armed men associated with him of entering homes in Ekona’s Electric Line neighbourhood on September 19 and shooting three civilians while they were asleep.
Local accounts had also accused Ewume of firing at an electricity transformer serving the community earlier, leaving residents without power.
Residents further alleged that armed men carried out searches of homes in the area before the three civilians were killed.
The accusations against Ewume have not been established by a court, and we can not independently determined who was responsible for the killings or the damage to the transformer.
His latest video is the first direct response from him to the allegations reported following the Ekona incident.
