Farmers across the Wum Sub-Division in Menchum Division are set to scale up food production following the distribution of critical farm inputs and tools under the Emergency Programme to Fight Against Food Insecurity in Cameroon (PULCA).
A total of 450 beneficiaries—comprising individual farmers and farming groups selected from various villages across Wum—received a range of agricultural supplies. The distributed items included 1,000 bags of organic fertilizer, high-yield rice seeds, cutlasses, wheelbarrows, sprayers, chemicals, and tillers.
Executed by the North West Development Authority (MIDENO) in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), PULCA aims to address regional food security challenges by equipping vulnerable farmers to enhance both farm output and overall productivity.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Menchum Division, Abdullahi Aliu, urged recipients to maximize the tools provided and reassured the community of the local administration's commitment to creating a peaceful, supportive environment for both farming and grazing activities.
Echoing the administrator's words, the Divisional Delegate of Agriculture and Rural Development for Menchum, Mvo Heisen Itia—who serves as the local focal point for Wum—noted that the provisions are targeted at stepping up the production of staple foods, including rice, maize, and market garden crops.
Beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to the government and implementing agencies for the timely intervention. One local farming group representative highlighted that previous distributions of maize seeds and fertilizer just months earlier had already yielded promising crops, noting that this latest support further cements their ability to sustain their households and supply local markets.
